Belt-Optional IWB for a PPK
What if you want to carry a gun at the belt line, but a belt is out of the question?
There’s a part of me that has always favored simplicity. What I love most about this holster arrangement is that it works just fine with a belt with pants/skirt, whatever. Or, it can be worn without. The waistband should have some kind of structure to it. I.e. – loose-fitting elastic waistbands won’t hold this up. But, my wife wears one like it, and she reports that it even works in her workout pants with the draw-string tied.
With the fuzzy, flesh side of the leather against your shirt, pants/skirt, underthings or whatever else the outside of the holster may be touching inside the waistband, the holster puts up more friction against your clothing than it does the gun, providing a quick, secure draw even without the aid of a belt. This is not to say that it will not retain, quite the opposite actually. I wouldn’t recommend doing a gymnastic floor routine in this holster, but it will hold the firearm in place just fine for daily life.
The long flange on the grip side helps to pull the butt in against the body, keeping it more concealable and less likely to print. The structure is stiff enough to offer an easy, one-handed re-holster, but it is thin and soft enough to remain comfortable all day long.
I would highly recommend this holster for professional women, whose daily clothing doesn’t necessarily come with belt loops that will accommodate a good gun belt, if any belt loops at all. It obviously works best with lighter guns, but it is effective in jeans, slacks, and skirts. The holster pictured fits a Walther PPK, but I can make this style for pretty much any compact to sub-compact handgun.
