My friend, Will admitted to me that he ‘pined for’ a left-hand holster for his aluminum .38Spl J-frame. He specifically wanted a holster that had no cant, so he could access it with either hand from deep cover if he ever found himself in a truly desperate situation. I asked him what color it should be. He said that it should probably be a color. I asked him if I should make him a pink holster. He said that he would proudly wear a pink holster. At the time, I didn’t think that I could do a pink holster (and have since proven myself wrong on that sentiment), in the thinking that it’s far easier to dye to a darker color rather than a lighter one, so I went with red. I had to call Will to tell him that I was looking at a holster that was somewhere between a fire engine and a tomato.

I would need access to a better camera to properly catch the color. It is really intense! This was the last of my first-generation holsters, and led the way into the next family of my holsters. I was so glad that I started playing with bright colors. So many of the holsters on the market are standard black, or standard brown. If you like black or brown, more power to you. The fact of the matter is that these things can be any color of the rainbow.

One thing I love about J-frame holsters is how very tightly they can be pulled in, and how incredibly comfortable they are to wear. With a good holster and a J-frame, it’s easy to forget you are carrying. Even if you are wearing one of the relatively heavy steel framed guns. Here’s a picture of my wife modeling this holster that illustrates how tightly it tucks into the small of the back:

I’ve been dying to get a review from him on how this thing wears on a daily basis. Hopefully, I’ll be able to corner a review before too terribly long. Ideally, I’d like a user-review on each holster I feature in these pages. I know not a lot of people would want to rock the red, but you have to admit that it almost seems like a shame to conceal this:

Anyway, I have a feeling that this won’t be the last red holster I make. It’s just too pretty, and I have to believe that I’ll wind up doing more.
